ABDOMINOPLASTY

Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fatty tissue from the lower and middle abdomen, and tightens the muscles of the abdominal wall. Abdominoplasty is not a surgical treatment for excess weight. Obese individuals who intend to lose weight should postpone any type of body contouring surgery until they are able to maintain their weight loss.

There are several different tummy tuck techniques. It may be combined with other forms of body contouring surgery including liposuction, or it may be performed at the same time as other elective surgeries.

Alternative Treatments

Alternative forms of treatment consist of not treating areas of sagging skin and fatty deposits. Liposuction may be a surgical alternative to abdominoplasty if there is good elastic skin tone and localized abdominal fat deposits in a normal-weight individual. Diet and exercise can be beneficial for an overall reduction in excess body fat.
